Can't say what sparked the thought, but I was pondering what the little science fiction nerd living in me would have done if she could sketch and paint with the skills she wished she had mastery over at that time (although she did win some blue ribbons in the 7th grade).
So I "let her out to play". Apparently her idea of what "we" should be drawing with our skills was quiet different from my playful kidlit illustrations. Considering today's 12 year old science fiction aficionados might like the same types of images, I considered it just might make the beginnings of a new portfolio for Middle Grade readers.
Obviously "she" is having a blast playing with flying (or are they swimming) creatures and glowy things. The child who was mesmerized by fireflies. A "wow" from Steph Laberis totally made "our" day and goes into the Dear Diary category.
